The distillate of Shinshu distillery is brought to 860 km southwest of the southernmost part of the main island of Japan. There, the Hombo Shuzo Co. started making Sochu as early as 1872. In 2016, the new Tsunuki distillery was built at the old location. There, the distillate of "Tsunuki 2020" is stored in old bourbon barrels until it reaches its rich, balanced and sweet aroma with a slight note of peat (about 20 ppm).

The Mars brand whiskey carries a long tradition in the manufacture of spirits. The family business Hombo Shuzo Co. was founded in 1872, in the far south of Japan, in Kagoshima, to make Shochu, a traditional Japanese brandy.
