Tobermory, the only distillery on the Isle of Mull, is nestled in an idyllic green setting on the Isle of Hebrides. Founded in 1798 by John Sinclair as Ledaig (pronounced led-chigg; the Gaelic word for "safe haven"), it is one of Scotland's oldest commercial distilleries. It has a history as colorful as the beach promenade, buffeted by changes, financial difficulties and several closures. It is only since 1993 - the year in which it became part of Burn Stewart Distillers - that this precious jewel has begun to thrive again. In its warehouses, classified as historical monuments, age outstanding whiskies, many times awarded.
